“less than a memory” addresses questions related to concepts of identity, connection, memory and time. Photographed in a cafe in San Francisco using a variety of long exposure techniques, the sequence of portraits honors the emotional impact of short-lived, and yet, deeply felt human connection while pointing out the instability of image and identity. Through an aesthetic of opacity and obfuscation, I intentionally obscure details and specificity and evoke the power of time to erase and transform. These blurred representations that highlight feelings, emotions and the ephemerality of encounter also work to denounce the superficiality of detail and specificity that can't last, and also, distracts from something more profound and durable, but more ambiguous.
