I photographed this sequence at a cafe on Divisadero street, in San Francisco. I stayed there for a few hours everyday reading, writing, watching people. They arrive, sit for a while and then leave, just as I do. A cafe is a transient place, it is the place where people cross paths and, for a moment, they can experience each other, they can connect in a special way. These fleeting moments have always been important to me. We see each other, we are touched in some way, we move on. I wonder, what is it that remains?
Photography is great at preserving details and keeping memories alive, but how can it express complex, intimate emotions that go beyond detail?
